Program Information

We are excited to offer you the Holy Name Traveling Rosary.  The purpose of this program is to unite the families of our school to pray the Rosary and request that our Blessed Mother intercede for the Holy Name School and Parish community, in order that we receive graces, protection, and guidance from the Blessed Trinity.

The Rosary is one of the most powerful and beautiful prayers because it is a reflection on the Mysteries of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and Mary’s role in our salvation.  The Rosary is simple in nature as prayers are said repetitively, which shows the humility of Jesus and Mary.  However, reflecting on the Mysteries while reciting the Rosary can bring us to divine enlightenment about our own role on how to live a life that follows Jesus.  Many blessings, miracles, and intercessions have occurred due to a devotion to the Rosary throughout the Church and they continue to occur as more people join to honor Our Blessed Mother while contemplating and adoring Jesus and the Blessed Trinity.  Apparitions of Our Blessed Mother, such as at Fatima and Lourdes, involved Her encouragement of reciting the Rosary, and many miracles, graces, and protections have been bestowed on people due to a devotion to the Rosary.  Saints as well as popes such as Saint Louis de Montfort, Saint Dominic, Pope Saint Pius V, and Pope Saint John Paul II, to name a few, promoted recitation of the Rosary and its many gifts.  The Catechism of the Catholic Church discusses the Rosary and regards Mary as the Mother of God and the Mother of the Church in which it says the following:

971. “ “All generations will call me blessed”: The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship."515 The Church rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of 'Mother of God,' to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. . . . This very special devotion . . . differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration."516 The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an "epitome of the whole Gospel," express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.”

The word rosary has Latin roots from the word “rosarium” which means “garland of roses”.  The Blessed Mother has revealed that every time we say a Hail Mary when reciting the Rosary, we are giving her a rose, and the complete prayer of the Rosary makes a crown of roses for Her.  When we say the Rosary, Our Blessed Mother is also praying the Rosary with us, as only a loving Mother would. We would like to invite all of the Holy Name families of the students and staff to join this devotion to the Blessed Mother, so that we can plant a magnificent spiritual rose garden for our school and parish community!

The Holy Name Traveling Rosary families (students and staff), who would like to volunteer, will sign up for a week during the year.  During their week, the family will pick up the Traveling Rosary and its contents so it may visit their home for that week.  The contents of the Holy Name Traveling Rosary have all been carefully selected or handmade especially for our school, and blessed by Monsignor Zenz.  The Traveling Rosary contains the following which are shown in the picture below:

  • The Immaculate Heart Heavenly Statue of Our Blessed Mother
  • Six rosaries (two Ghirelli rosaries & four that were handmade for our school)
  • “The Rosary in Art for Children” book
  • Instructions book
  • Intentions book
  • Contents box made by a Holy Name parent

The statue of Our Blessed Mother will be displayed in a prominent place in their home for the entire week.   On three separate days during the week, using the rosaries and instructions in the box, they will recite the Rosary together as a family in the presence of the statue.  We have chosen the Immaculate Heart Heavenly Protector Statue of our Heavenly Mother so we may receive her protection and love to ask the Blessed Trinity for blessings and what we most need in our school community.  Each day of recitation, we ask that the family reflect on a different set of Mysteries, which are explained in the instructions.   We also request that the intentions of each family’s Rosaries be for the Blessed Trinity to help Holy Name School carry out the will of God and come into closer union with Jesus and His undying Mercy and Love for us.  In addition, families are invited to pray for their own intentions or any intentions in the Intention book.

We do realize how difficult it can be to live in our world and the hectic fast paced lives that people lead where every minute of the day is taken.  We hope that saying the Rosary for our community will help you find a quiet and peaceful time together, and perhaps continue a devotion and tradition of saying the Rosary together as a family.  We ask that you consider this as part of your volunteering for Holy Name School, since the spiritual benefits for our community are immeasurable.  Reading the Instructions Book in the Traveling Rosary and saying the Rosary three times during the week you have the Traveling Rosary should not be any longer than two hours total.  Thank you for considering uniting in prayer with us to the Blessed Mother and Holy Trinity, and we wish you an abundance of the spiritual fruits of the Rosary from God through Our Blessed Mother’s intercession
