RETREAT PILLARS

At Holy Name Catholic School, our teachers and retreat coordinator plan our annual grade level retreats with care and discernment in hope that our students have a prayerful and engaging experience that further develops their faith life and friendship with Jesus. We also created a set of pillars that we incorporate into all of our retreat plans with the desire that each retreat S.P.E.A.K.S. to each Holy Name student.

Retreat Pillars - S.P.E.A.K.S.

S – Scripture. Through reading and reflecting on passages of Holy Scripture from the Bible, our students encounter Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God, and His teachings.

P – Prayer. Through participating in a sacred time of prayer, our students enter into conversation with God and develop their relationship with Him as they share their hearts with Him and ask Him to reveal Himself more to them.

E – Energize. Through engaging in activities, crafts, and songs, our students actively bring our retreat theme to life in a fun and memorable way.

A – Apply. Through providing concrete examples of faith practices related to our retreat theme, our students are given ways to extend the retreat experience into daily application in their lives to support their growth in faith.

K – Kerygma. Through hearing the proclamation of the Gospel in a simple way, our students increase in understanding of the abundant love of God for each of us, the problem of sin that separates us from God, the solution through Jesus’ sacrificial offering to bring us back in relationship with God, and our response to accept this gift of reconciliation, to grow in relationship with God, and to share our faith with others as disciples of Jesus.

S – Share. Through affirmation of our identity as joyful missionary disciples of Jesus, our students are encouraged to share their retreat experience with others and bring others to know and love Jesus through their prayers, words, and actions.
